Most cranes require hydraulic oil to operate.  While a truck crane can be connected to the truck’s engine via the transmission and a PTO, a marine crane needs a motor that will turn the pump to circulate the oil.

Marine cranes are not sold with these necessary power units because the applications, equipment, and crane operating environments vary so widely.
